Floating Points (Sam Shepherd) composed Mere Mortals, his first full-length ballet score, performed live with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra and released in 2026 through Deutsche Grammophone. Mere Mortals is a full-length ballet created for San Francisco Ballet, choreographed by Aszure Barton and commissioned by Artistic Director Tamara Rojo. It reimagines the myth of Pandora through the lens of artificial intelligence and modern technology. Floating Points performs the electronic components live alongside the orchestra, blending synthesizers-especially the Buchla-with orchestral textures.
