Almost immediately after hearing the Beatles' North American debut album at eight years old, Al di Meola decided he wanted to become a musician. Just 11 years later, he was recruited by Chick Corea to replace Bill Connors in the legendary jazz fusion band Return to Forever, together with Stanley Clarke and Lenny White. His tenure turned out to be a short one-just two years-but turned out to coincide with the group's career peak. Around the time the group broke up, he released his first record Land of the Midnight Sun, followed by Elegant Gypsy already a year later. Here, he showcased his prowess for fast electric guitar riffs, lyrical acoustic passages, and every technique in between. The record clearly showcases his predilection for flamenco and Latin jazz, exemplified by the record's two most important tunes: "Mediterranean Sundance" and "Race With Devil On Spanish Highway". Elegant Gypsy is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on translucent red coloured vinyl and includes in insert.
